    I too use PWM to make an DC trains controller. I use an 24 volts PWM to enable me run trains from N to G scale. All I need to do is change to power adaptor suitable for the scale of the train. 12 volts DC for N and HO scale, 24 volts DC for G scale. I am from Chennai India.

    Mike, you have converted the modern tension hook into a version of the original tension hook design used by Triang. I think the Triang style of tension hook was originated by the Wimbledon MRC in the 20's/30's to allow easy uncoupling for shunting operation. I am using old Triang wagons on my shunting layout for this reason, I had not thought of moding the modern coupling.

    Remove the buildings and the layout design looks just like my small HO/OO layout that I have built at home, except for the angle the track is set at and the placement of the controller. I have also built an HO/OO Inglenook layout that is kept at my local club rooms, and I run it when the public running days are happening. Like your layout, the Inglenook has a curved head-shunt in order to cut down the size of the board needed to hold it all. Unfortunately, the club rooms are closed to the public at the moment, due to scaffolding that is up around the building because of repairs that are taking place The outdoor tracks that take people for rides are still operating on fine Sunday afternoons, and we had a night run recently to celebrate Matariki (the Maori new year).

    I like this layout very much. I have a 2x4 board and would use mainly UK outline, most of which I have. I would place the level crossing next to the station point and thereby create road ways to the station and goods yard. I wouldn’t want to add much, if anything to your plan as I feel that often less adds realism. Thank you as always for all the ideas you provide to us and the explanations.

  • @richardtarr2745

    Looking good Mike, have you considered a 'midscene' to split the layout in half and have a town area one side and industrial the other? I've always liked the idea of a 'two-in- one' layout. I look forward to seeing it progress 😎

    • @BudgetModelRailways
      @BudgetModelRailways 3 дні тому

      I did think about it but it's probably not quite wide enough to make it work. Also the controller is only on one side

    • @richardtarr2745
      @richardtarr2745 3 дні тому

  • @billybobbassman
    @billybobbassman 4 дні тому

    In answer to your question, you don't need a backscene with this sort of layout. Everything is in view, you don't need a fiddle yard or hidden operator area, so everyone can enjoy from every angle. A proper kitchen table layout just to run in the background or sit down and do some shunting. Keep it basic and fun 🚂👍

    This one is ideal for a scene on an UK light railway, or a local continental line. I'm thinking about an N scale layout representing a local line here in my department, Isère, which had been put out of service in the 1930s, imaging it as if it still runs today. I'll see what I can do with my Kato or Tomix track, just in your own style.

    How cute! The _small buildings_ along with the small loco & wagons are all nicely proportioned. The layout seems larger than it is. (Think of this as the activity _within_ a terminus.) This would be a nice shunter to bring to shows: run it continuously until a little (child) "customer" wants to learn & do a little shunting. 😊💜
